Semi-Autonomous Remote Control of an Avatar Robot’s Head for Distance Education

Recently, study support systems that use ICT (Information and Communication Technology) are gradually becoming more prevalent in Japan. In one of these systems, an avatar robot is used for distance education. However, since the student receiving distance education must manually operate the robot's head and arms, this technology may distract the student controlling the robot. In this study, we examine whether users can feel agency without manually operating the robot by achieving the semi-autonomous movement of the avatar robot's head. We control the movement of the robot's head using two data sources-the position of the teacher (obtained with a depth sensor) and the movement of the user's head.
