Image Enhancement Technique based on Power-Law Transformation of Cumulative Distribution Function

This paper addresses the problem of real-time image enhancement in automatic mode in mobile and wireless applications. A new technique of image enhancement by intensity transformation based on an adaptive power-law transformation of the cumulative distribution function of brightness is proposed. The proposed technique provides an effective increase in the image contrast without the emergence of unwanted artifacts and has several advantages compared with the well-known technique of histogram equalization. The results of the research confirm the effectiveness of the proposed technique for improving images in automatic mode.
