Simulation Research on the Drag Torque of Disengaged Wet Clutches

In order to evaluate the drag torque of wet clutches in high speed zone, a gas-fluid two phases mathematical model was established with grooves in consideration based on the theory of viscous fluid dynamics. A VOF (Volume of Fluid) model composed of two phases was established to investigate the distribution and the volume fraction of air and fluid. It is found that the gap between plates will decrease in high speed zone which results in the phenomenon that the drag torque rise again in high speed zone. It helps a good understanding of the physical phenomenon and drag torque characteristics of disengaged wet clutches and provides a theoretical basis to improve the efficiency of the drive system.
