Analytical Investigation of the Magnetic-Field Distribution in an Axial-Flux Magnetic-Geared Machine

This paper proposes a novel two-dimensional (2-D) analytical method to predict the performance of an axial-flux magnetic-geared machine under no-load and load condition. The computation is based on the solution of Laplace's or Poisson's equation with boundary conditions for each elementary rectangular region. Therefore, the expressions of the air-gap flux distribution, no-load back electromotive force, electromagnetic torque and axial force can be obtained. In order to assess the proposed method, the 2-D analytical and 3-D FEA results have been compared, and the accuracy of the 2-D analytical method is within 10.3%. As the computational time is reduced significantly in the premise of ensuring accuracy, the analytical method can be used as an effective tool for the initial design procedure.
