Research on Accurate Pneumatic Pressure Control for Regenerative Braking System of Commercial Vehicles

In this paper, a novel combined control method of electro-pneumatic braking system using fast on-off valves has been proposed, which can improve the precision of pressure tracking and fulfill the requirement of regenerative braking system of electric vehicle. Firstly, the composite mathematical model of the pneumatic braking system was built up and verified by simulation and experimental tests respectively. Secondly, PID controller with PWM and fuzzy controller with cooperative PWM are adopted in this combined control method. Besides, a switching model is designed to ensure the suitable switching states of the valves. By modeling and simulation under various braking condition, the timeliness and accuracy of the braking pressure response is illustrated. All the simulation results prove that the proposed control method has a significant improvement compared with conventional PID control method.
