Antenna design for subharmonic injection-locked triple barrier RTD oscillator in the 300 GHz band

This paper presents a dielectric lens antenna (DLA) for a wireless subharmonic injection-locked triple barrier (TB) resonant tunneling diode (RTD) oscillator. The proposed DLA receives power from a reference source in the 100 GHz band and radiates at 300 GHz corresponding to the fundamental frequency of the TB RTD. An extended hemispherical alumina lens is utilized to enhance the gain of the antenna while inhibiting the emergence of surface waves in the underlying indium phosphide (InP) substrate. The feed of the DLA consists of a fat monopole with a slot-like counterpoise yielding a bandwidth that can cover both, the 100 GHz subharmonic frequency band and the 300 GHz. In order to maximize the injection power, a near-field coupling topology as well as a dual-band complex impedance matching network are applied. The coupling part, which is placed in the near field of the antenna, has minimal impact on the antenna's far field radiation pattern and shows a good coupling efficiency in the meantime.
