Influence of DNA Sequences on Gas Responses Using DNA-modified Graphene Devices

In order to quickly detect disease markers in exhalation and perform early diagnosis, gas detection at the level of ppb in compact devices is required. In this work, we evaluated the influence of DNA sequences on gas response by fabricating graphene FETs modified DNAs with different base sequences and measuring the change in transfer characteristics before and after introducing ethanol gas. As a result of measurement with different DNA-modified graphene FETs, differences in transfer characteristic shift was observed. These shifts are owing to the polarization in the ethanol molecule and the change in the 3D structure of the DNA by the adsorption of ethanol. Therefore, the results are essential to enhance selectivity and sensitivity for detection of actual disease markers.
