Effect of Window Arrangement on Controlling the Smoke Spread in a Refuge Floor

floor in tower A of KRRISH square was selected for the case study. FDS was used to proceed CFD analysis. Mathematical models such as turbulence models used for the simulations were validated in two methods. Results of the validations were with good comparison. Investigations were performed for current window configuration and proposed a modified window set up that have better survivable conditions. Temperature, Carbon Monoxide concentration and visibility were selected as the parameters to investigate the survivable condition. It was shown that the proposed window configuration was more suitable than the existing window set up using those selected parameters. Comparisons were performed using graphs and slices of selected parameters. Importance of using cross ventilation, effectiveness of using windows to control wind speed inside the floor could be suggested as the considerations for designing window setups in refuge floors.
