Coordination of Distributed Energy Resources: Model Predictive Control based Approach

Model predictive control (MPC) is used to solve the economic dispatch problem in an isolated power system with distributed energy resources (DERs), such as renewable energy resources (wind, solar), battery energy storage subsystems and fossil fueled generators (diesel generators). The problem is formulated as a multi-objective optimization problem with the quadratic cost function and subject to some linear constraints. The proposed optimization problem is converted to standard quadratic programming and finally to feedback MPC. Developed optimal coordination of DERs has been implemented and is demonstrated on the simple example.
