Design and Research of Muscle Spasm Sensor Based on Modified Ashworth Scale Feature Detection

In order to detect and evaluate the muscle spasm feature of lower extremity in stroke patients, a muscle tension sensor for detecting and assessing spasticity was developed. We investigate the needs of standard in spasm detection and quantitative evaluation, and improve the structure design of the muscle tension sensor. Then, according to the features distribution of different spasticity levels, experimental data of muscle tension of the lower extremity joints under passive activities are collected. Finally, based on the characteristic of spasticity information, verification was carried out based on MAS (Modified Ashworth Scale). Proposed relevant indicators, which include muscle tone classification threshold, spasticity grade etc, are verified by experiments, and the design feasibility is checked.
