A Model-Independent Delay Compensation Method for Power Systems

The paper provides a simple and robust model-independent compensation technique to mitigate the impact of time delays on power system stability. As the proposed approach requires the first derivative of the delayed signal, the resulting model of the power system with inclusion of compensation is in the form of neutral delay differential-algebraic equations. The paper also provides a systematic approach to evaluate the small-signal stability of the compensated system. This is done through a descriptor model transformation, Chebyshev discretization, and Newton correction. The IEEE 14-bus system is utilized to test the effectiveness and robustness of the proposed compensation technique.
