The New Fitting Technique for The Irkutsk Incoherent Scatter Radar Data

The paper proposes the new processing technique for Irkutsk Incoherent Scatter Radar (IISR) primary data. The new processing program was performed using an adaptive simplex processor (ASP), which improves the fitting accuracy of the full spectrum IISR profile (primary data). In addition, a distinguish feature of the new technique is the use of a modified radar equation. The modified radar equation takes into account electromagnetic wave refraction into ionospheric plasma. The new ASP has a high calculation speed and allows one to process IISR data in real time. The ASP fitting accuracy exceeds the accuracy of all algorithms that were used previously. Accounting for refraction in the modified radar equation made it possible to re-evaluate the characteristics of the ionospheric plasma velocity and improve the recovery accuracy of the electron density. New estimates of the relative ion composition for Irkutsk region were obtained.
