Four-Band Polarization-Insensitive and Wide-Angle Metasurface with Simplified Structure for Harvesting Electromagnetic Energy

This paper demonstrates a metasurface with polarization-insensitive and wide-angle characteristics operating in four bands for harvesting the electromagnetic energy. This metasurface realizes polarization-insensitive characteristic by using only one single via instead of multi-vias, which reduces the complexity of the structure significantly. The simulation results show that the maximum harvesting efficiencies are 68%, 41%, 81%, and 58% at 5.8 GHz, 9.2 GHz, 11.7 GHz and 13.5 GHz, respectively, on the conditions of random polarization and normal incidence. When the oblique incident angle varies from 0° to 45°, this metasurface can also maintain effective harvesting efficiency in four bands.
