A Belt Antenna Design with Textile Aritificial Magnetic Conductor Reflector

A belt buckle antenna working at 2.45 GHz in the ISM band is presented in this paper. The radiating element of this antenna consists of a metal belt buckle and a metal cap. In terms of ergonomics, the overall structure is similar to a conventional belt buckle to provide a comfortable user experience. The effect of the human body on antenna performance and the Specific Absorption Rate (SAR) were considered during the design process. In order to further reduce the radiation into the human body and enhance the gain performance, an Artificial Magnetic Conductor (AMC) reflector based on textile material was designed. The antenna presented has a simulated realised gain of 4.373 dBi without the reflector and 7.524 dBi with the reflector. This belt antenna design could be applied in a smart belt system.
