Procedure to Design a Series-fed Microstrip Patch Antenna Array for 77 GHz Automotive Radar

In this paper, the procedure to design a series-fed microstrip patch antenna array for 77GHz automotive radar is presented. The simulated antenna is designed with a 1×10 series-fed rectangular microstrip patch, based on transmission-line model analysis method. To satisfy the low sidelobe level (SLL) in E-plane, the 25dB Dolph-Chebyshev distribution is employed to the simulated patch. The current amplitude of each patch is calculated by the field calculator in the full-wave simulation software HFSS. The results of simulated and theoretical analyzed are in a good agreement.
