Investigation on Electrical Power Demand of Chassis Control Systems in All-Wheel Steered Vehicles

Vehicle dynamics simulation has become a standard in automotive development processes, mostly used to derive characteristic driving dynamic values or in Hardware-In-the-Loop (HiL) applications. Expanding these models with precise representations of electromechanical actuators of chassis control systems allows for estimation of their electrical power demand during high-dynamic driving maneuvers and thereby enabling correct dimensioning of board net components. To facilitate for a most early power demand prediction, the developed methodology combines a standard vehicle-dynamics simulation with high-precision actuator models for front and rear wheel steering systems. System analysis and validation is based on both, test bench and vehicle measurements. Matlab/SIMULINK \circledR and IPG CarMaker serve as simulation environment.
