AMPS-1D Modelling of P3HT/PCBM Bilayer and BHJ Organic Solar Cell

Bilayer and bulk heterojunction (BHJ) organic solar cells were simulated and studied in five structures by one-dimensional AMPS software. In bilayer structures, Poly3-hexylphiophene (P3HT) and [6], [6] -phenyl C61-butyric acid methyl ester (PCBM) were utilized as an active layer individually and combinatory. ITO and Al were considered as anode and cathode electrodes. In addition, PEDOT: PSS and ZnO were used as an anode and a cathode buffer layer, respectively. In order to compare performance of different structures, power conversion efficiency (PCE), short circuit current density, open circuit voltage and fill-factor in different active layer thicknesses were investigated. The results clearly demonstrated that usage of combined active layer and buffer layers for electrodes increases PCE of the solar cell to 2.08%. We found the optimum thickness of 30nm for combined P3HT: PCBM active layer.
