Parametric Analysis and Design of Magnetic Lead Screw

This paper studies the overall design of MLS. The MLS performance and material cost efficiency are reflected by shear force and thrust force per magnet volume respectively. Based on the 2-D and 3-D finite element analysis (FEA), the effects on shear force and cost efficiency of different structural parameters are investigated by single-variable and multi-variables analysis. A reasonable design procedure for MLS is presented. According to the different requirements of high thrust force and cost efficiency, different design methods for determining structural parameters are proposed respectively. The design procedure of a design sample is presented to verify the concept and analysis.
