Fast Solution of Electromagnetic Scattering from Dielectric Objects via the Modified SVD-CBFM

A fast solution is proposed to efficiently analyze electromagnetic scattering from dielectric objects via the modified characteristic basis function method based on singular value decomposition (SVD-CBFM). The conventional SVD-CBFM applies the SVD to the original CBFs for the purpose of removing the redundancy. However, this process wastes much unnecessary CPU time on the matrix solution associated with the redundancy. In this paper, the adaptive cross approximation-singular value decomposition (ACA-SVD) replacing the SVD is adopted to improve the generation of CBFs by eliminating the excitation-vectors redundancy in advance, which remarkably reduces the CPU time for generating CBFs with negligible loss of accuracy. The validity of the proposed method is illustrated with the systematic analysis of electromagnetic scattering from dielectric objects, numerical results are given to demonstrate its efficiency and accuracy.
