A Novel Frequency Reconfigurable Slot Antenna using Metasurface

A frequency reconfigurable slot antenna using metasurface is presented in this paper. The proposed structure comprises of a slot antenna and a single layer of metasurface which is optimized to produce frequency reconfigurability. The metasurface consists of a meandered unit cell structure and is positioned periodically along the x-axis and y-axis. The rotation of this metasurface layer w.r.t the slot antenna produces the frequency reconfigurability. Frequency tunability from 1.9 GHz to 2.3 GHz with a wide tuning range of 19% is achieved with the proposed frequency reconfigurable metasurface (FRMS) antenna. The antenna gain varies from 4.5 dBi to 5 dBi in the frequency band of operation.
