Interleaved Buck-Boost Integrated DC Fast Charger with Bidirectional Fault Blocking Capability

Environmental considerations have recently driven interest in Electric Vehicles (EVs). Despite battery and charging system improvements, range anxiety and high cost associated with charging infrastructure still pose significant barriers to EV adoption. Integrated dc fast charging presents a promising alternative to mitigate these challenges. This paper proposes a fully integrated onboard dc fast charger, which is compatible with permanent magnet synchronous machines (PMSMs), dc-excited synchronous machines, and induction motors as well as single or dual inverter drive systems. The proposed charger has bidirectional power transfer capability suitable for G2V, V2G, and V2V applications. Additionally, the system is compatible with input voltages either lower or higher than the battery voltage, while providing bidirectional fault blocking capability. The presented topology provides a safe, flexible, and cost-efficient solution for elerctromobility charging.
