The Army Uses R&M Techniques to Develop Novel Flash Requirement for the M62A1 Tracer Munition

Making novel changes to military specifications can be a challenging process for good reason. These specifications have years of subject matter expertise, mathematical underpinning, and production experience built in, all of which are indispensable. Due to the nature of these specifications, making novel changes is generally avoided unless sufficient evidence exists to justify the change. This evidence has to have some component of real life test data, and some rationale for the change that is compelling and relevant to today's mission. Even with all of this, the changes can be rejected for a variety of complex reasons.
