Monitoring and Analysis of Recent and Ongoing R&I Projects on Smart Grids and Vectors Integration at European and Global Level

This review is aimed at analysing the main recent or ongoing R&I projects on smart grids and vectors integration that are being conducted in Europe and in different parts of the world, with special focus to Power-to-Gas and Power-to-Heat technologies. Some lessons learnt from the analysis are reported in order to highlight potential synergies and possible R&I needs of the different implementation paths. The analysis has allowed to show the applied value of such technologies to achieve sustainable efficient energy systems and to indicate the barriers to a higher penetration on the market. As compared with the quite static development situation of a few years ago, the results have pointed out some aspects emerging in the demonstration projects that could lead to a significant deployment of systems based on both technologies in the medium term.
