Radio-frequency interference coordination used to be a well-understood earthbound art. Now space technology, and particularly communication via satellites, is opening a new frontier of interference coordination, with new problems and new tools for their solution. The anticipated volume of such communication will require satellite systems to make multiple use of much of the 1–10 Gc spectrum and to share it with surface radio services. Worldwide cooperation in clearing gigacycle-bandwidths for satellite communication would be an unrealistic expectation and also unnecessary.
