Reconfigurable X-shaped THz Metamaterials employing Quantum Dots

We report the utilization of an X-shaped metamaterial (MM) designed to have resonant frequencies in the THz regime. The reconfigurable behavior was observed when exciting photoluminescent down-shifting quantum dots deployed on the aforementioned MM with a UV source. The expected outcome will be the modification of the resonant frequency amplitude upon exposure of the metallic array with an UV source. The demonstration described herein is anticipated to enable the fabrication of additional circuitry elements operating in the THz regime.
