Highly efficient optical pumping of Rb atoms for evanescent fields at dielectric-vapor interfaces

Optical prism integrated with a vapor cell and excited by evanescent wave under total internal reflection is used to study nanoscale light-atom interactions and to demonstrate efficient optical pumping of rubidium at a dielectric-vapor interface.
