The Influence of Permanent Magnet Length and Magnet Type on Flux-control of Axial Flux Hybrid Excited Electrical Machine

This paper presents the influence of permanent magnet (PM) parameters and axial length of PMs on a DC field control range of a hybrid excited axial-flux (HEAF) machine design. Based on 3-D finite-element analysis (3D-FEA), a flux-control range (FCR), flux density distribution, and no-load phase back-EMF waveforms have been performed. Moreover, FEA predictions of back-EMF under different DC field currents have been compared with experimental results obtained from a prototype HEAF machine with NdFeB magnets on the rotor.
