Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) Standardization: Issues in Pursuit of Global Accomplishment

Management of flow of all kinds of objects including human beings signifies their real time monitoring. It demands online updating of database in the flow of chain through a viable automatic identification (auto-ID) technology like RFID. Standardization of RFID is still a vital issue in accomplishment of its global vision. The focal idea of this paper is to deliberate and identify the core issues in respect of RFID which act as a barrier foe its worldwide standardized implementation. Existing complexities in ISO, EPC, EPC Global Standardization and frequency related issues in RFID standardization have been discussed with major emphasis. This paper also outlines the obstacle, challenges and possible resolutions in globally standardized implementation of RFID which can facilitate industry specific needs as well as to potential general applications. This paper also presents technological, patent, manufacturing, customization and other infrastructural related challenges having implications on RFID's global standardization. This paper also highlights significance of IoT (Internet of Things) to facilitate RFID technology in identification and locating the objects. Certain deficiencies like lack of appropriate legislative regulations which imposes apprehensions in respect of security and privacy has also been discussed in this paper. A cloud based RFID locating system has been proposed in this paper to synchronize the subscriber's aspirations towards framework of RFID enabled global services.
