Optimal Choice of Technical Means for Reactive Power Compensation

According to the Energy Strategy of Russia for the period up to 2030, the aim of the energy industry is to reduce energy wastes and improve the power quality in distribution systems through the most updated reactive power compensation units, filters, power inductors and inspection systems. The issues of the choice of installed capacity for unregulated compensation units have been thoroughly studied. As for the choice of the installed capacity for step-type regulated and static compensation units, it is a complex problem for optimization. The aim of this paper is to provide the required reactive power compensation, voltage distortions and fluctuations through the optimal choice of parameters for the compensation devices in electric grids. The following methods were considered in order to achieve the goal: harmonic balance, statistical tests, harmonic linearisation, fuzzy sets and multi poles theories. As a result, an optimization model was developed which makes it possible to identify the optimal choice of technical tools parameters for compensation of reactive power and voltage distortions at the minimum of reduced costs.
