Abstract:

Bee-keeping is an age-old practice of maintaining bee hive colonies for obtaining honey and other bee-hive based products and is technically termed as apiculture. This paper proposed a system that detects swarming using two different approaches. The first being, using auditory analysis of the sound produced by the bees during swarming. And the second approach, detection by monitoring microclimatic surges and variations in the weight. Once swarming is detected the system is designed to alert the apiculturist through cloud services. The raw data such as brood temperature, brood humidity, ambient temperature and weight of the hive can also be accessed from the cloud server by the beekeepers, hence making the beehive monitoring process free from human intervention.
