Application of Laser Light Scattering in Bacteria Viability Testing Using Lab-on-a-chip Format

The application of laser light scattering in express-testing of bacterial antibiotic resistance is considered. Live bacterial cells in suspension form efficiently radiation-dissipating heterogeneous medium, which provides a good dynamic range and sensitivity of the analytical method. The ways of miniaturization of light scattering methods for creating the bases of their realization in laboratories-on-a-chip format are considered. The influence of miniaturization on the assay speed is investigated. An array of measurement microvials and coherent illumination system were tested by splitting a laser beam with a two-dimensional collimator made of anodic alumina. The experiments were carried out using E. coli M-17 and ceftriaxone model.
