Transverse Anderson Localization of Exciton-Polaritons in Microcavities With Single-Layer WS2

As entangled photon and exciton quasiparticles, exciton-polaritons exhibit characteristics of both electromagnetic wave and matter wave, in which transport properties are key for future applications of photoelectronic/quantum networking. Here, we theoretically demonstrate ballistic transport and Anderson localization of exciton-polaritons in microcavities with monolayer WS
₂
in the absence and presence of disorder, respectively. The impact of strong coupling between photons and excitons as well as the influence of photonic/excitonic disorder on the localization transport of polaritons are revealed. The results show that strong coupling will decrease the diffusion speed, and the degree of localization is determined by the types and potential height of disorder.
