Proposal and Analysis of Mixed CNT Bundle for Sub-Threshold Interconnects

We report, for the first time, mixed CNT bundle (MCB) as prospective interconnect in the sub-threshold regime. MCBs with spatial and random distribution of single- and multi-walled CNTs of non-identical diameters are proposed. An analytic model to compute sub-threshold crosstalk delay in coupled MCB interconnects is introduced. Using the proposed model, the impact of interconnect length on the delay performance and transfer gain for coupled MCB interconnects is studied. It is observed that sub-threshold MCB interconnects demonstrate improved crosstalk delay and higher cutoff frequency in comparison to the MWCNT and copper counterparts. The proposed model efficiently computes the performance of sub-threshold MCB interconnect system with less than 3% average error.
