Comparative Design Analysis of Axial Flux Permanent Magnet Direct-Drive Wind Generators

This paper presents a comparative analysis of two small-wind axial flux permanent magnet generators, for direct-drive wind energy conversion system. A three-phase dual-rotor ironless-stator axial-flux permanent magnet machine structure with drum winding is compared with a three-phase dual rotor slotless iron core stator TORUS generator. 3D electromagnetic analysis of the designed machines is carried out in terms of standalone operation. The comparative results of the simulations obtained show that the proposed solutions could be an option for the wind power system.
