Dominant-wavelength measurements in liquid-liquid systems

The paper presents dominant wave-length measurements seen on a liquid jet surrounded by another immiscible liquid. Two similar phenomena are investigated: the natural breakup process of liquid jet and the phenomenon of a jet impacting a flat fluid interface, bounded not to break into droplets. In both cases a dominant wave develops causing either the break-up of the jet or the instability of the liquid column. The measured dominant wavelengths are then compared with the theoretical predictions of the model of Tomotika. We find that the inertia-less model provides more accurate predictions in terms of the dominant wave-length for the case of a jet impacting on a flat fluid interface.
