Study on Induced Currents in an Elliptical Cylindrical Model by Overhead High Voltage Power Lines

Human exposure to the electric and magnetic fields emitted by Overhead High Voltage Power Lines (OhHVPL) is a topic that raises concerns among general public, especially in the context of a greater than ever urbanization process that makes new residential districts increasingly closer to the 110 kV power lines, mainly in the exploitation of electricity distribution companies. For the here approached case study, it has been chosen a commonly used network in Romania: double three-phase overhead line with a single ground wire, suspension towers type Sn 110252. The present paper proposes a more detailed model of the human body, consisting of 12 separate rotation bodies, legs and respectively hands being distinct elements. The trunk is modeled not as a circular cylinder, but, closer to reality, as an elliptical one. Using CST SUITE STUDIO software, we have calculated the induced current densities (along central vertical axis or at the surface of the human body model) due to both the electric field generated by the 110 kV three-phase voltages and the magnetic field generated by the 2 x 3 phase currents (maximum admissible intensity 640 A). The proposed model is homogeneous in terms of electrical properties. The data obtained by our simulation are in accordance with theory and other results obtained using different human body models, methods or software. Pertinent conclusions are drawn on the relevance of adopting more detailed human body models along with a recommendation for reducing exposure to magnetic fields produced by OhHVPL.
