Comparative Dynamic Performance Analysis of Line-start Synchronous Motors with Electromagnetic and Permanent-Magnet Excitation. A Review

Together with electromagnetic excitation synchronous machines (SMEE), permanent magnet synchronous machines (PMSM) might be an alternative solution in a lot of low or high power modern driving systems. Two synchronous machines are considered (with identical stator, with damping windings), equally excited by electromagnetic way and by permanent magnets; the characteristics and the electromagnetic and mechanical stresses are compared, in case of simulating some dynamic processes.
