Reversible watermarking for medical images with added security using chaos theory

Because of rapid growth in communication techniques, the methods for embedding secret data have gained immense importance. Especially in telemedicine applications large amount of medical data needs to be stored and distributed efficiently. For this increased security threats need to be addresses effectively .The paper discusses digital watermarking for medical images with added confidentiality. Specifically the problem of protecting patient’s medical records by hiding the EPR in the medical images is discussed. Here reversible watermarking technique based on prediction error expansion is implemented. To successfully retrieve the watermark at the receiver, location map needs to be retrieved correctly. To successfully retrieve the watermark at the receiver, location map needs to be retrieved correctly. We present use of chaos maps to encrypt the location map as well as the watermark before embedding. This gives additional security to the technique without compromising the quality of the watermarked image.
