A brief review of wireless sensors used for acquiring ECG

With the fast moving trends in technology every single day, it is hard to keep up with it. The drawback of this trend is that not everyone can access it. Heart diseases are considered as one of the world’s leading cause of death. The heart patients have to follow various tests for diagnosis and treatment. The existing technique, i.e., the most commonly used technique, ECG is expensive and invasive. It can be applied only under clinical observation. To overcome the limitations of existing invasive systems of heart rate measurement, the non-invasive wireless techniques are required. A fully functioning ECG and probes is very scarce in the rural areas. The limitation of cardiovascular services in rural areas is one of the major concerns in India and yet it has not been resolved for long time. The administering of ECG test and interpreting the result requires the doctor to be present on-site and in rural areas it is unrealistic for the doctor to be present all the time. The concept of usage of electrodes that operate without gels, adhesives and skin contact have been known for many decades, they have not been accepted for any medical use. In this paper we will discuss about sensors which can be used as an alternative for the probes i.e. the lead system, and wireless transmission of the signal to mobile, laptop or any other source of display.
