Design and Development of a Network Learning Platform Based on the Big Data Concept

With the continuous development of information technology, the use of network learning platforms has become a new way for students' self-study. Combining network technology and multimedia technology, online learning platforms create a "virtual" learning environment, provide high-quality learning resources and enable prompter learning evaluations for students. However, through an examination of the literature and practical experience of applying some MOOCs, Cloud Classes and other learning platforms, it is clear that the online learning platform still has some shortcomings. For example, the collecting and storing of data about students' learning processes can result in a single type of information, indirect presentation, incomprehensive evaluation mechanisms, and lack of prediction of learning development. The development of the Big Data concept and technology is changing the way of learning, and the process evaluation mechanism needs to be established and improved urgently. Under the Big Data concept, this study has analyzed the demands of students' online learning and evaluation, and used software engineering methods to design and develop the network learning platform. The platform is integrated with many functions, such as announcement management, resource sharing, homework management, online discussion, group collaboration, online exams, Q&A, and learning diagnosis, so as to provide an excellent environment for students' learning, and to collect data through the learning process to provide evidence for process evaluation. The functions of the platform were tested, were basically found to have achieved the expected goals, and will be put into use.
