Systematized Active Power Control of PMSG-Based Wind-Driven Generators

A systematized active power control scheme has been proposed in this paper to address the most crucial wind specific control functions of permanent magnet synchronous generator based wind-driven generator. The control strategies are targeted to reform the conventional control scheme of the back-back voltage source converters evading additional chopper circuit, dual current control, and compensation loops. Primarily, the torsional mode oscillation damping control is actively incorporated with the dc-link voltage control loop of the machine-side converter. Simultaneously, power regulation associated to fault ride through compliance and oscillation damping pertaining to grid disturbances are amended on grid-side converter active power control loop. The proposed control schemes were studied using PSCAD/EMTDC simulations and the results proved to have better consistency over the conventional schemes under different operating conditions.
