Editorial: Special Section on Energy Efficiency for 5G

There are many technical challenges to realize green communications and networking over fifth generation (5G) mobile systems. New paradigms and cutting-edge technologies are needed to optimally allocate a multitude of resources under various networking scenarios for different applications that have diverse QoS requirements. This Special Section aims to present the latest advances of the fundamental techniques and technologies that will impact the design and standardization of energy efficiency in 5G. From the many submissions received in response to the Call for Papers, after rigorous reviews and revisions, we have selected the following articles that cover the important areas of this research field.
