Construction of virtual models of water areas for navigational analyses

In the article, the authors present the use of maneuvering simulator for research in the field of navigational analysis. The well-known advantages of virtual reality have also boosted its popularity in research in the field of navigation. Maneuvering simulators have become one of the basic research tools used in the design of new navigation systems and harbor areas in the last 20 years. Simulators have also found their application in assessing the possibility of building other structures. The authors present the methodology of construction of the virtual model of the Motława River stretch in Gdańsk. The constructed water area was used during the research work in the field of navigational analysis carried out before the construction of the footbridge connecting Ołowianka Island with the old city in Gdańsk.
