On the Validity of Time Domain Methods for Complex Cavities

This work evaluates the applicability of computational electromagnetic methods for simulating the response of a typical aircraft weapon bay. The goal is to develop a prediction of maximum expected electric field levels in the bay for evaluating EMC, including hazards of electromagnetic radiation to ordnance. A generalized geometry is created with traits similar to an aircraft bay. The Transmission Line Matrix method is used to simulate the response of the bay at 1830 MHz using a near field source in CST Microwave Studio. Results are evaluated for Chi-squared distribution with six degrees of freedom and the predicted number of modes.
