Detrimental Effects of Mobile Phone Radiations on Human Health

The number of mobile phones in the market has increased tremendously due to popular demand, affordability and the rising population. Despite the boon of technology which has resulted in better connectivity and accessibility to information, ill effects of their excessive usage as well as the harmful radiations emitted cannot be ignored. The usage of mobile phones causes physical and psychological or behavioural changes in humans. The physical damage is caused to tissues mainly due to radiations. The dangers of the mobile phone radiations have been discussed in this paper, in terms of Specific Absorption Rate (SAR) and penetration depth in human tissues. While using mobile phones, skin, fat, brain and bone are the organs which come in direct contact. Thus, SAR and penetration depth for these have been evaluated, along with the mention of safe permissible limits. To study the psychological or behaviour changes in humans, a survey form has been designed. For this study, the data has been acquired by conducting a survey across various colleges and offices to estimate the proximity to mobile, affect on sleeping pattern, distance from the base tower, ill effect on health, average usage of internet and getting stressed with these devices. The questions have been answered and correspondingly a Pearson correlation coefficient has been calculated to show the correlation, which showcase direct and indirect repercussions on the physical and mental aspects of a human body. The Expert medical opinion has also been taken into account to identify the behavioural issues such as addiction and attention deficit disorders in children and adolescents, intolerance, sleeplessness, anxiety etc due to the exploitation of the latest gadgets. The precautionary methods regarding usage of mobile phones have also been suggested.
