Simulation of the Low-Voltage DC Arc

This article describes a technique for modeling the ignition and extinction of the low-voltage DC arc. All modeling took place in a common software environment COMSOL Multiphysics with the help of Electric Currents, Magnetic Fields, Heat Transfer in Fluids and Laminar Flow physics interfaces. Two finite element models were developed and calculated- with and without the ferromagnetic plane. The dynamics of arc propagation in an external magnetic field between two fixed current-carrying contacts and their heating is studied.
