Fault Management in Isolated Microgrid

As the Microgrid (MG) increase in spatial size they become more prone to faults due to vagaries of nature. Apart from the device level protection available for the devices of the inverters a system level protection is necessary to protect the entire power system of the MG. This paper presents a new control methodology for uninterrupted power flow in islanded MG during fault condition. The fault current is first limited and then the faulty section is taken out. A voltage-current controller in coordination with logical controller is proposed for smooth detection and management of fault current. The performance of the controllers and its effectiveness has been tested through simulation studies using a standard MG model.
