Improved Voltage and Dynamic Performance of Transmission Power Networks Using Distributed Superconducting Magnetic Energy Storage Systems

This paper introduces a project that studies network improvements using distributed superconducting magnetic energy storage and overview of the state-of-technology. The work includes consideration of voltage stability and illustrated the development of the model. Optimal placement is considered. Modal Analysis describes how the optimal placement and sizing of the SMES is determined for a test system to improve voltage stability. Results from simulations are given.
