Investigation of Water Drop on Silicone Rubber Insulator for High Voltage Transmission Line Using FEM

The water drop on the silicone rubber insulator surface during contaminated conditions under various changing parameters has already been investigated. In general, there is a lack of investigation of electrostatic parameters during dry and humid air conditions. This study shows the simulation of the water drop at the 90-degree contact angle on clean silicon rubber insulator under high voltage stress in 2D space dimension is shown, by using the finite element method based software. This software is used for numerical calculation of potential, normalized electric field and polarization density distribution. These field distribution is used to visualize and analyze above electrostatic parameters for comparison, under dry and humid air conditions. Furthermore, the simulation results show that potential distribution is not much affected during both dry and humid air conditions where the electric field is higher in case of humid air condition compared to dry air at triple point junction. Results also show that the field enhancement ratio in humid air condition is two times, wherein the dry air it is less. In addition, Polarization density at the triple point in humid air is increased more in comparison to dry air conditions. This paperwork can be used to learn about the initial behaviour of the water drop on clean silicone rubber insulator surface under both the dry and humid air boundary conditions using the finite element method.
