Real time monitoring of muscle fatigue and muscle disorder of biceps brachii using Surface Electromyography (sEMG)

The purpose of this study is the real timemeasurement of the surface electromyography (sEMG) to monitor the muscle fatigue and muscle disorder during the forearm tensing or flexing exercise. There were ten subjects (24±1 years, height 175±9cm and weight 65± 15 kg) who had completed endurance exercise lifting 6 kg and 11 kg dumbbell flexing forearm and signal from of each subject's biceps brachii was recorded. Signal of maximal voluntary contraction (MVC) on biceps brachii was measured before and after performing exercise. Median (MedF) and RMS value of MVC were calculated for further analysis. The results calculated specify that the exercise done in later phase (endurance concentric contraction) indicates that fatigue in muscle lies between 85% and 100%. The root mean square(RMS) in time domain analysis and the median frequency(MedF) in frequency domain analysis helps in indicating whether subject is healthy, myopathic or neuropathic.
